About Ethical Gifts
Ethical Gifts was set up in 2003 by a crafts fan in the UK who loved making things but started running out of space in which to keep them. After reading about Jacqui Saburido, she wanted to raise some money and originally decided to design a bracelet and sell it with all monies going to Jacqui's fund. This idea then spiralled into a whole range of designs, with 10% of the sale price (not profit) going to the fund.
But what else do we mean by Ethical Gifts?
- None of our designs use animal products, not even glues.
- Quite a few re-use old and broken jewellery, or other materials we can't bear to throw away.
- Where possible, we source materials from Fair Trade schemes (our glass heart jewellery is especially good for this).
- We don't use hardwoods, pearls or other natural resources that we don't believe can be easily replaced.
- We don't use diamonds as we cannot be sure of their provenance and will not be part of a trade that fuels civil war and slavery.
- Waste and transport are kept to a minimum in all of our processes.
- We only link to other companies that we believe share our philosophy.
Ethical Gifts trades mainly at music events but is supported by this website which can reach a far wider audience. If you would like to order, 1) email us with details of what you would like and where you live and 2) watch out for your postman : )
